Lawrence Russell Herkimer (October 14, – July 1, ) was an American innovator in the field of cheerleading.

Early life and career
He was born in Muskegon, Michigan.[3] As a cheerleader at Southern Methodist University, Herkimer developed what became known as the Herkie by accident while intending to perform a split jump.
